Special Weather Statement
Issued: 10:29 PM Jan. 28, 2026 – National Weather Service
...AREAS OF LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING... A wintry mix of light snow and freezing rain is possible through Thursday morning with a light glaze of ice possible. Rain is expected for east Turnagain Arm and Portage Valley to the coast. However, any rain that falls onto residual packed snow and ice could make travel difficult. Expect conditions to be more dry towards Cook Inlet as the rain moves west over the Chugach and Kenai Mountains and precipitation starts to dry out. Patchy areas of light freezing rain and snow cannot be ruled out though. Snow levels this afternoon will be around 1000 feet, increasing to around 2000 feet tonight. Multiple rounds of precipitation is expected with one main wave early this afternoon, another later tonight into early Thursday morning, and scattered light showers in between. Even though conditions have overall improved since the big snow yesterday, please continue to travel with caution by slowing down, allow extra time to reach your destination, and check travel reports.
