...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON AKST SUNDAY... * WHAT...North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...Northwest Anchorage. * WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to noon AKST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong and gusty winds will pick up quickly this evening into tonight across mainly northern and western parts of the Anchorage area. Winds will rapidly weaken Sunday morning and fully diminish Sunday afternoon. Dry conditions and strong winds will lead to increased fire weather concerns. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that will produce a spark. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. ...GUSTY WINDS AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL BRING INCREASE FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS THIS WEEKEND... Gusty winds, little to no snow cover, and ongoing dry conditions will allow for increased fire weather concerns extending along the Knik Arm and Glenn Highway to the Anchorage Bowl and Hillside, and along the western Kenai Peninsula. Fire weather concerns will be highest from Saturday evening through Sunday morning. Please be mindful of outdoor fire use as any spark could spread quickly into nearby trees, bushes, and exposed grasses.
