At 820 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Hyde Park, or 8 miles south of Rhinebeck. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Rhinebeck, Hyde Park, Pleasant Valley, Staatsburg, Port Ewen, Esopus, Ellerslie, Rifton, Salt Point, Norrie Heights, Union Center, Wurtemburg, Netherwood, Dewitt Mills, Haviland, Pleasant Plains, Gretna, Clinton Hollow, Washington Hollow, and Bulls Head. ...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...The mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Litchfield County, central and southern Taconics, and western Massachusetts. * WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall rates may flood low-lying, poor drainage, urban, and other flood-prone locations. Areas where heavy rainfall rates persist will especially be vulnerable to flash flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms capable of heavy downpours arrive tomorrow afternoon from west to east continuing tomorrow night with rainfall rates exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Despite recent dry conditions, such high rainfall rates in a short period of time can result in flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas and where heavy rain repeatedly impacts a given area. Steady rain continues into Wednesday before transitioning to showers Wednesday night into Thursday.
