...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 230 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and west central Florida, including
the following counties, in central Florida, Polk. In west central
Florida, Hillsborough.

* WHEN...Until 230 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1235 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain
have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Tampa, Temple Terrace, Fish Hawk, Brandon, Riverview, Palm
River-Clair Mel, East Lake-Orient Park, Mulberry, Lithia
Springs State Park, Bloomingdale, Boyette, Valrico, Alafia
River State Park, Dover, Seffner, Progress Village, Mango,
Gibsonton, Palm River and Thonotosassa.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...Pinellas, Coastal Hillsborough, Coastal Manatee,
Coastal Sarasota, Coastal Charlotte and Coastal Lee Counties.

* WHEN...through Friday evening.

* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
