From Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day, large amounts of snow are expected, while the wind on the bare mountains will be very strong. Near the Norwegian border, large amounts of rain are expected instead, which could cause flooding problems.; What happens?: During Christmas, a deep low pressure passes north of the country. From Christmas Eve evening, the west or southwest wind increases and becomes strong or very strong, 16-24 m/s. Locally also storm force (25 m/s or more). At the same time, snow showers are moving in, which may give large amounts. Therefore very difficult weather is expected on the bare mountains. In the lowlands, mostly rain is expected. The wind is expected to culminate on Christmas day morning, and then gradually decrease in the afternoon and evening. The snow showers also decreases at that time.; What should I think about?: No hiking is recommended in mountainous areas. Rescue efforts can be risky and may take long time. It is very difficult to orientate due to reduced visibility. It is very difficult to move and set up or anchor tents. The risk of frostbite is high.; Where?: The mountains in Norrbotten County from Kvikkjokk and northwards, except for the easternmost part; Comments: Note that there are warnings for both large amounts of rain with a risk of flooding (mainly in the lowlands) and large amounts of snow in the bare mountains in combination with strong winds.

From Christmas Eve afternoon and into Christmas Day very windy with very strong winds or storm strength winds from the west or southwest.; What happens?: During Christmas, a deep low pressure passes north of the country. From Christmas Eve afternoon, the westerly wind increases and becomes very strong or up to storm force, 22-30 m/s. Locally even higher. At the same time, large amounts of rain may occur, or in the northern part snow showers that may be heavy, but the largest precipitation amounts are expected near the Norwegian border. The wind will increase first in the northern part, but from night to Christmas Day, winds up to storm are expected also down over the Västerbotten mountains. The wind is expected to continue throughout Christmas Day, when the wind will turn to the northwest.; What should I think about?: No hiking is recommended in mountainous areas. Rescue efforts can be risky and may take long time. It can be very difficult to move and set up or anchor tents. In connection with drifting snow, it is difficult to orientate due to reduced visibility. The risk of frostbite is high due to degree below zero or rain.; Where?: Parts of the Lapland mountains, including around Tärnaby, Vuoggatjålme and up over the easternmost mountains up to Kiruna.; Comments: Even before the warning starts, strong or locally very strong westerly winds may occur.
