In northeast Minnesota, St. Louis County. * WHEN...Until noon CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 745 AM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms which occurred overnight. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Nett Lake, Orr, Big Falls, Ash Lake, Crane Lake, Pelican Lake, Cusson, Margie, Voyageurs National Park, Gemmell, Buyck, northwestern Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Bois Forte Band Nett Lake Area, Grand Falls, Black Duck Lake, Echo Lake, Sand Point Lake, Loon Lake and Lac La Croix. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood. ...AIR QUALITY ALERT NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category. * WHERE...Northeast Minnesota. * WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may experience health effects. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light winds will allow existing wildfire smoke across northern Minnesota to linger into this evening and overnight. Concentrations are expected to be highest along and near the shores of Lake Superior. An additional round of heavy surface smoke from wildfires across southern Canada is expected to transport into northern Minnesota on Tuesday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The general public should limit prolonged or heavy exertion. Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices.
