Typhoon Warning
Issued: 10:17 AM Apr. 16, 2026 – National Weather Service
...TYPHOON WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
People should remain in a designated shelter or in a sturdy and
reinforced concrete building to ride out the storm as tropical storm
force winds are occurring at Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Due to the
size of the storm, the latest forecast has tropical storm force
winds continuing over northern Rota waters over the next few hours
tonight, and through the very early morning hours Friday for
Tinian and Saipan. Even when winds start to decrease, remain
indoors until the "all clear" is given. Strong to tropical storm
force gusts remain a possibility for the next day or two,
especially with any passing shower.

Damage to remaining metal roof homes remains possible.
Electricity and water will remain unavailable for days and perhaps
weeks after the storm passes. Most trees will be snapped or
uprooted. Fallen trees may cut off residential areas for days to
weeks.

&&

...WIND INFORMATION...
For Rota, southwesterly tropical storm winds around 35 to 45 mph
with gusts to 60 mph are still expected for the next few hours
over northern coastal waters tonight, especially near any showers.
At Rota, sustained winds are expected to continue falling below
tropical storm force of 39 mph by this evening.

For Tinian and Saipan, south to southwest tropical storm force winds
of around 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 55 mph are possible tonight as
the eye continues to move slowly north, away from the islands,
decreasing to 25 to 35 mph early Friday morning.

...COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION...
Dangerous surf at Rota is expected to be around 13 to 19 feet
along north, south and west facing reefs due to westerly wind-
driven waves. For Tinian and Saipan, 16 to 20 feet is possible
along north, south and west facing reefs as winds have shifted
south to southwest, starting to limit surf along east facing
reefs at this time. Sinlaku is producing a fully developed
northwest to north swell as well. Inundation of 1-2 feet for Rota
is possible along south, west, and north facing reefs due to
westerly wind-driven surf. For Tinian and Saipan, inundation of 4
to 7 feet is expected. A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect
for Tinian and Saipan, and a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect
for Rota. Surf will be slow to decrease after Sinlaku's exit to
the northwest for the remainder of the week, as swells will
continue to pummel western Marianas shores.

...OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Heavy rainfall is no longer a threat for Rota. Although the Flood
Watch has expired for Tinian and Saipan, moderate to locally
heavy fast-moving showers are still possible along the outer
southeast periphery of Sinlaku's rainbands. Additional rainfall up
to 0.5 inches remain possible through tonight for Tinian and
Saipan.
