At 120 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7 miles south of Ponchatoula, or 12 miles south of Hammond, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Hammond, Ponchatoula, Springfield, Robert, Killian, and W Lk Pontchartrain Buoy. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 12 between mile markers 37 and 53. Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 5 and 30. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas... Lake Maurepas... At 102 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a cluster of strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This cluster of thunderstorms is generally located over Lake Maurepas, moving east at 15 knots. Mariners can expect widespread gusty winds to around 30 knots, higher waves, and dangerous lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this activity passes. &&
