Winter weather is on the way to the Panhandles Wednesday afternoon
into Thursday. A weather system is expected to move over the Four
Corners Wednesday and then track east across New Mexico on
Wednesday night. Out ahead of this system a strong cold front,
associated with a much larger cold air mass over Canada will bring
cold enough temperatures to the Panhandles to allow the
precipitation to be in the form of snow.

It's anticipated that this system will produce some snow bands,
possibly a narrow area of snow. These band locations could range
from the Oklahoma Panhandle down to the southern Texas Panhandle.
Right now there's high uncertainty on the location of the snow
bands, so much that winter highlights are currently on hold. As
the system approaches and we narrow down the areas that have the
greatest chances of impactful accumulating snow, then we'll add
winter highlights as needed.

Right now areas covered in this statement have about a 30 to 60
percent chance of receiving at least an inch of snow between
Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday evening. But if these turn out
to be narrow snow bands, then there could be several areas that
receive little to no snow, while more isolated areas pick up 1 to
2 inches of snow. And those same areas would have about a 10
percent chance of greater than 2 inches of snow.

As it stands right now the best chance for snow to occur in
Oklahoma to northwest Texas would be mid day Wednesday through
midnight Wednesday night. West of Amarillo to Guymon has the best
chance for snow from 9PM Wednesday through about 6 AM Thursday
morning. And east of that same line would be from 3AM to 3PM
Thursday.
