...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM AKST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 70 below zero. * WHERE...Arctic Coast, Arctic Plains, and Brooks Range Passes. * WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 70 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 5 minutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light to moderate winds coupled with ambient air temperatures as low as 50 below zero will allow for dangerously cold conditions to impact the North Slope and Brooks Range through midweek. Increasing winds Tuesday into Wednesday will increase the threat of extreme cold early Wednesday ahead of slowly rising ambient temperatures. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Central Beaufort Sea Coast, Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast, Northern Arctic Coast, and Northwest Arctic Coast. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 9 PM AKST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel may be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility to 1/2 mile or less at times. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Easterly winds increase overnight Tuesday and then decrease Wednesday evening and overnight.
