...POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY... A low tracking just east of Kodiak Island will bring a mix of precipitation types Thursday night into Friday night and then bring a chance for heavy snow and blowing snow late Friday night into Saturday. There is considerable uncertainty in the precipitation type as the rain-snow line will be very close to Kodiak City and any movement of the low track east or west will make a large difference in how much warm air will move over the Island. As the cold air moves in again early Saturday, there may be a periods of heavy snow and blowing snow before drier air from the west shuts off the snow. At this time, the most likely scenario is for the precipitation to begin as snow on Thursday night with a few inches of accumulation before turning to rain on Friday. The change back to snow should occur late Friday night, and that will be when the potential for the more significant snow and blowing snow conditions are possible. The forecast is likely to change between now and this weekend so please pay attention for forecast updates.
