..POTENTIAL REMAINS FOR SIGNIFICANT LONG DURATION SNOW EVENT LATE THIS WEEKEND... Multiple systems look to move through the region this coming weekend. Temperatures and snow levels are expected to steadily fall starting on Saturday through the weekend over the northern panhandle. Current forecast confidence is not high enough for warning level snowfall moving toward the NE Gulf Coast and the Icy Strait Corridor, including Juneau, Gustavus, Hoonah, and Yakutat. This is primarily due to the timing challenge of when the transition from rain to snow occurs and the amount of resulting accumulating snowfall expected thereafter. However, forecast confidence remains high on this staying a longer duration event through the weekend once snowfall starts, with snow and colder temperatures continuing to move southward across the panhandle into early next week. Stay tuned to the forecast over the coming days as forecast confidence improves on the extent and timing of this system.
