Special Weather Statement

...LIGHT SNOW RETURNS TO SOUTHCENTRAL ON FRIDAY... Light snow will overspread the Kenai Peninsula Friday morning and then most of the remainder of Southcentral Alaska Friday afternoon. Snow will then persist through Friday evening before gradually tapering off Friday night into Saturday. Snow accumulation will generally range from 1 to 3 inches, though there is potential for higher amounts across portions of the Kenai Peninsula. The bigger impact from this snowfall will be low visibilities along area roadways, as dry and fluffy snow will be easily lofted by the movement of vehicles. One area we are watching closely is the western Kenai Peninsula from Nikiski to Anchor Point. There is potential for gusty northerly winds to more severely reduce visibilities. Stay tuned as we continue to evaluate this potential hazard. Anyone planning to travel Friday or Friday night should plan for falling snow and reduced visibilities along Southcentral roadways.
