Rip Current Statement
Issued: 6:41 PM Mar. 14, 2026 – National Weather Service
...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM CHST MONDAY...
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 9 to 12 feet, up to 14 feet
along north facing reefs. Dangerous rip currents.

* WHERE...North and east facing reefs of the Marianas.

* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 PM ChST Monday. For
the High Rip Current Risk, through Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong winds around a strong low pressure
system near Japan and a Kona Low that is northwest of Hawai'i
have been producing long-period NNW and NE swells to the region.
Hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents are expected
along north and east facing reefs. Surf is expected to build
near 15 feet along north facing reefs, which may possibly
warrant a High Surf Warning. As NNW swell builds over the coming
days, it can potentially build to hazardous levels of 9 feet
along west facing reefs, likely needing the advisory to be
extended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
