Yellow Warning - Extreme Cold
Issued: 11:52 PM Dec. 26, 2025 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
Wind chill values near minus 50.

When: This evening.

Where: Watson Lake and Cassiar Mountains.
 
Remarks: An Arctic ridge of high pressure is bringing very cold conditions to southern Yukon. Light winds combined with frigid temperatures will produce  extreme wind chill values as low as minus 50.

Temperature and wind chill values will improve this evening.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Yellow Warning - Snowfall
Issued: 11:41 PM Dec. 26, 2025 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected.

What: Heavy snow and reduced visibility.

Where: Watson Lake and Cassiar Mountains including Swift River and Jade City.

When: Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

Remarks: An approaching storm system will bring snow to the area beginning Saturday afternoon. Snow will intensify Saturday evening and continue Sunday. By late Sunday afternoon, total snowfall amounts up to 25 cm can be expected with lesser amounts near 15 cm at Jade City.

More snow may be on the way Sunday night and Monday as another system is forecast to arrive.
