Issued: 6:55 PM May. 6, 2025 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
A long duration heavy rainfall is expected with possible significant localized freezing rain.

Locations: Port Saunders and the Straits, and Northern Peninsula East.

Time span: late Wednesday through Thursday evening.

Total rainfall: 30 to 60 mm.

Remarks: Precipitation is expected to fall primarily as rain as temperatures are forecast to remain just above zero over most locations. However, the potential exists for localized significant freezing rain, mainly over higher elevations and northern coastal areas where slightly cooler conditions are possible.

The precipitation will change to snow or ice pellets before ending Thursday night but snow and ice pellet accumulations look minimal at this time.

 Similar events in the past have led to:
- hazardous driving conditions 
- localized flooding, especially in poor drainage areas
- utility outages

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Locations: Northern Peninsula East.

Maximum gusts: westerly to southwesterly 70 km/h, except 100 in the Canada Bay area.

Time span: until early Wednesday morning.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
