Yellow Warning - Rainfall
Issued: 6:47 PM Aug. 23, 2026 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
A prolonged period of heavy rain is occurring. Locations: central and northern Nova Scotia. Additional rainfall: 20 to 40 mm, except near 60 in areas of heaviest rain, with local totals near 100 mm possible. Time span: today and tonight. Remarks: A slow-moving weather system will continue to support a prolonged period of rainfall. The humid nature of this system could give embedded thunderstorms with rainfall rates in excess of 15 mm per hour. Some of these bands could persist over some areas, leading to locally higher amounts. Similar storms in the past have caused: - localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage - road shoulder erosion and washouts ### Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected due to rainfall amounts. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on social media using #NSStorm.
