A rapidly deepening low pressure system is expected Tuesday into Wednesday. Time span: Beginning Tuesday morning and lasting until Wednesday evening. Potential hazards: - Significant rainfall exceeding 50 mm in 24 hours. - Significant wind exceeding 100 km/h. - Coastal flooding due to storm surge and large waves. Location: Newfoundland. Remarks: A low pressure system will rapidly deepen as it approaches Newfoundland from the south on Tuesday. Significant rainfall and wind is expected for most of the Island with the highest rainfall totals likely over southern and central areas. Coastal flooding due to storm surge and large waves is also expected over a large portion of the coast, particularly the southeast and northeast coasts. As well, there is potential for accumulating snowfall over western areas of the province Tuesday night. Similar storms in the past have caused: -minor flooding and poor driving conditions due to significant rain. -minor damage and utility outages due to significant wind. -minor coastal flooding and damage to coastal infrastructure.
