Issued: 2:24 PM Apr. 2, 2026 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected.

A band of heavy snow has stalled in southwestern Alberta, from Canmore to Calgary to Strathmore and areas just southeast of there. The heaviest snow should last until about noon, then the snow will slowly taper off throughout the afternoon.

###

Travel will be challenging. Roads and walkways will be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Visibility will be reduced at times.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #ABStorm.
Special Weather Statement
Issued: 10:53 AM Apr. 2, 2026 – Environment and Climate Change Canada
Poor travel conditions possible today.

Snow is expected to intensify this morning across southern and central Alberta, impacting parts of Highway 2 and stretches of Highway 1 both west of Calgary and southeast toward Medicine Hat.

Periods of heavy snow may reduce visibility and lead to rapidly changing road conditions. Conditions are expected to improve by this evening.

Total snowfall amounts remain uncertain with 5 to 15 cm possible in some locations. Temperatures near zero may limit snowfall accumulation.

Allow extra time to travel and be prepared for changing conditions.

Temperatures are forecast to rise this weekend, and any snow that does accumulate will likely melt quickly, improving travel conditions for the long weekend
