Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Wind

DAMAGING WINDS averaging 50 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are developing over the South West, Lower West, and South Coastal districts this morning, extending to the remainder of the warning area during the afternoon. Winds are shifting from west northwesterly to southwesterly following the frontal passage, with DAMAGING WINDS likely to persist behind the front throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Conditions are expected to ease from the west during the afternoon, although DAMAGING WINDS may persist over southeast coastal parts of the warning area into early Tuesday morning. This weather is typical for this time of year, although this will be the windiest front of the year so far. Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Esperance, Katanning, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Merredin, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Norseman, Northam and Perth. Ocean Reef recorded sustained winds of 63 km/h around 9am Rottnest Island recorded a 93 km/h wind gust at 7:48am Busselton Jetty recorded a 91 km/h wind gust at 5:13am

Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Monday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the South West, South Coastal and South East Coastal forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
