Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected during Friday and Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the North East, South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Wind

For the EASTERN RANGES: DAMAGING NORTH TO NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds during the evening. For the SOUTHEAST MELBOURNE SUBURBS, SOUTHWEST COAST, GRAMPIANS, and BASS COAST: DAMAGING WEST TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible with the frontal passage reaching the southwest coast in the late afternoon and the Melbourne area in the late evening. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS may persist behind the front about the southwest coast into early Saturday. Winds throughout the state will ease below thresholds by early Saturday morning. Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Portland, Wonthaggi, Frankston, Falls Creek, Dargo, Rosebud, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller and the bayside suburbs of Melbourne. Severe weather is no longer occurring in the North Central district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. 67 km/h sustained winds were observed at Melbourne Airport at 11:10am.
