Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Wind
Issued: 12:53 AM Jun. 3, 2026 – Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
For SOUTHERN and CENTRAL RANGES from Katoomba and Braidwood: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible today and Thursday.
For western SNOWY MOUNTAINS below 1900 metres and the ACT ranges: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible this evening.
For ALPINE PEAKS in the SNOWY MOUNTAINS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are forecast to redevelop again this evening and continue into Thursday. BLIZZARD conditions are possible above 1400 metres from Wednesday evening. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Katoomba, Braidwood, Ebor, Nowendoc, Barrington Tops, Thredbo Tops and Mt Ginini.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Mid North Coast, Hunter and Northern Tablelands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
Average winds of 65-70 km/h and a wind gust of 117 km/h at 4:08 am were recorded at Thredbo.
Sheep Graziers Warning

Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and westerly winds are expected during Wednesday and Thursday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Northern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
