Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Wind

For the GRAMPIANS and PYRENEES: DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS averaging 70 to 80 km/h, with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are expected for the remainder of today and early Saturday morning.
For the CENTRAL RANGES: DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h, with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected for the remainder of today and early Saturday morning.
For the EASTERN RANGES: DAMAGING NORTHERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h continuing into Saturday afternoon. Blizzard conditions are also possible for alpine areas above 1400 metres from late Friday evening.
Conditions are expected to ease in western and central areas by around sunrise, and over the Eastern Ranges during Saturday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Ballarat, Daylesford, Falls Creek, Yarra Glen, Dargo and Mt Baw Baw.
Significant wind observations to 4:30pm:
A 104 km/h gust was recorded at Mount William at 4:22pm
A 106 km/h gust was recorded at Mt Hotham at 4:18pm
A 107 km/h gust was recorded at Ben Nevis at 4:17pm
Sustained 80 km/h winds were recorded at Mount William around 4:00pm

Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and northerly winds are expected during Friday and Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East and South West forecast districts and parts of the Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
