Rip Current Statement
Issued: 7:29 PM Feb. 23, 2026 – National Weather Service
...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM CHST
WEDNESDAY...
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON...
...COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT
THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

Corrected to remove west facing reefs from the High Surf Advisory and
High Rip Current Risk.

* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 9 to
13 feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk,
dangerous rip currents. For the Coastal Flood Statement, isolated
minor coastal flooding expected.

* WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, north facing reefs of the
Marianas. For the Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs.
For the Coastal Flood Statement, north and east facing reefs.

* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 5 PM ChST Wednesday.
For the High Rip Current Risk, through Wednesday afternoon. For
the Coastal Flood Statement, from late tonight through Thursday
afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Some water on low lying roads and property. Dangerous
swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Surf remains hazardous due to a building
primary northeast trade swell and secondary north-northwest swell,
associated with a southward-moving shear line. Swell and surf will
continue to build along north and east facing reefs, but gradually
diminish along west facing reefs as the primary swell energy
shifts further to the north and east. Late tonight, a significant
pulse of trade swell is expected to rapidly build across the
Marianas, reinforced by a strong trade-wind surge behind the shear
line. Surf will increase further and could become dangerous at
times along north and east facing reefs, especially around
Wednesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Small Craft Advisory
Issued: 6:54 PM Feb. 23, 2026 – National Weather Service
...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM CHST
WEDNESDAY...
...HAZARDOUS SEAS WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT
THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...For the Small Craft Advisory, east winds 20 to 30 kt
with gusts up to 40 kt and seas 9 to 14 feet. For the Hazardous
Seas Watch, very steep and hazardous seas 11 to 16 feet possible.

* WHERE...Marianas Coastal Waters.

* WHEN...For the Small Craft Advisory, until 5 AM ChST Wednesday.
For the Hazardous Seas Watch, from late tonight through
Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Very steep and hazardous seas could capsize or cause
damage to vessels.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds and seas will continue to increase
from north to south across the Marianas as a shear line
gradually sweeps south and west through the area. Winds of 20 to
25 knots and combined seas of 7 to 10 feet are currently
generating elevated, choppy sea conditions hazardous to small
craft. After a brief lull today, seas and winds will rapidly
increase late tonight as a significant trade-wind surge builds
behind the shear line, reinforcing the north-northeast swell and
wind waves. Combined seas are expected to reach 15 feet over
eastern portions of Guam and Rota waters by Wednesday morning as
strong winds increase, with frequent near-gale to gale-force
gusts possible. Seas and winds will begin to relax by the end of
the week, after a peak in hazardous conditions around
Wednesday. However, as seas remain elevated at or exceeding 10
feet, a Small Craft Advisory may need to be maintained into the
weekend.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller
vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.
