Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 11:17 AM MST Feb. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
rain and snowmelt in...
southeastern Blaine County in central Idaho...
Lincoln County in south central Idaho...
Minidoka County in south central Idaho...

* until 1145 am MST Thursday

* at approx. 10:00 am MST, emergency management officials reported
reported continued flooding for mainly northern and eastern
Lincoln County as well as southeast Blaine County. Widespread
flooding continues for Minidoka County too. Additional rain on
snow and saturated ground as well as windy conditions will create
additional low-lying flooding this afternoon through the evening.
A cool down and overall dry period Wednesday through most of the
weekend will aide to slow down of flooding, though it may take a
couple of days to see the full effect.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, Shoshone, Northern Lake Walcott, Paul,
Richfield, Minidoka, Dietrich, Acequia, Shoshone ice caves, Bear
Trap Airport, Kimama and Laidlaw Corrals Airport.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
