Watches & Warnings

Hazardous Seas Warning, Gale Watch
Issued: 2:26 PM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Hazardous seas warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST
Saturday...
... Gale watch now in effect from Saturday evening through late
Saturday night...

* winds... W wind 15 to 25 kt through Saturday. Winds will become
southerly 25 to 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt Saturday night.

* Waves... large W swell 25 to 30 feet at around 17 to 18 seconds
Friday night persisting through Saturday. Seas will remain
elevated after that.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A hazardous seas warning means hazardous sea conditions are
imminent or occurring. Recreational boaters should remain in
port... or take shelter until waves subside. Commercial vessels
should prepare for rough seas and consider remaining in port or
taking shelter in port until hazardous seas subside.

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.
