Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory
Issued: 2:59 AM PDT Jul. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 11 PM PDT this evening...

* temperature: high temperatures of 103 to 108 degrees are
expected again today for Mineral and southern Lyon counties... as
well as the western Nevada basin and range including Lovelock...
Fallon... and Hawthorne.

* Impacts: hot afternoon temperatures will increase the threat of
heat related illnesses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency... call 9 1 1.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 4:10 AM PDT Jul. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 9 PM
PDT this evening for dry thunderstorms and erratic outflow winds
for areas mainly west of Highway 95...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a red flag
warning for dry thunderstorms and erratic outflow winds, which is
in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 9 PM PDT this evening.

* Affected area... fire zone 453 west central Nevada basin and
range. Primarily west of Highway 95 including Fernley, Pyramid
Lake, Black Rock Desert, and Silver Springs.

* Thunderstorms... isolated dry thunderstorms are expected to
develop this afternoon along the Sierra front, pushing eastward
toward Highway 95 by late afternoon or early evening.

* Outflow winds... erratic and sudden wind gusts 35-50 mph are
likely with locally higher gusts possible in the desert areas.

* Impacts... lightning can create new fire starts and may combine
with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in
size and intensity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation... such as yard work... target shooting... or
campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.Gov/Reno
for updates and livingwithfire.Info for preparedness tips.
