Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:42 PM CDT Jul. 23, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening...

* temperatures... temperatures around 90 through early evening.
Lows in the mid to upper 70s tonight will provide little relief
from the heat.

* Heat Index... Peak heat index values of 100 to 110 degrees are
expected this afternoon until 7 PM this evening. Some areas
may see these high heat index values around 105 degrees linger
into Sunday afternoon as well.

* Impacts... there is a high risk of heat related illnesses for
people with prolonged outdoor exposure... or without access to
air conditioning. The elderly... small children... and pets are
especially susceptible to the heat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
water... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets
should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when
car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of
minutes.
