Watches & Warnings

Blizzard Watch
Issued: 10:08 AM AKST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon through
Monday afternoon...

* location... Pribilof Islands.

* Snow... 3 to 6 inches.

* Visibility... possibly reduced to one quarter mile or less at
times.

* Wind... 45 to 60 mph with gusts as high as 70 mph.

* Timing... periods of moderate to heavy snowfall will begin
Sunday afternoon as a front swings north near the Pribilof
Islands. At the same time... strong and gusty winds will
accompany the aforementioned snowfall which could lead to
white- out conditions across the Pribilof Islands. These
conditions will persist through Monday afternoon before
snowfall begins to taper off and winds begin to weaken.

* Impacts... snowfall combined with strong winds and blowing snow
may produce white-out conditions at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or
blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities.
This can lead to white-out conditions and make travel very
difficult.
