... Flood Warning extended until Monday evening... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Clinch River at Cleveland VA.
* From tonight until Monday evening.
* At 08:45 PM Sunday the stage was 12.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by tonight and continue to rise
to near 18.5 feet after midnight. The river will fall
below flood stage by tomorrow early afternoon.
* At 19.0 feet... water affects a few houses on Main Street, and
approximately 35 acres about two miles up- and downstream from the
Highway 82 bridge.

* at 629 PM EDT, multiple reports of flooding continue to come in
for the warned area. Several issues on area roadways continue from
the recent heavy rainfall. Three to six inches of rain have
already fallen. Rainfall is beginning to decrease but the local
creeks and streams will remain elevated across the warned area

* some locations that will experience flooding include...
Knoxville, Johnson City, Kingsport, Oak Ridge, Morristown,
Maryville, Bristol TN, Bristol VA, Greeneville, Sevierville,
Elizabethton, Clinton, Lenoir City, Alcoa, Abingdon, Jefferson
City, La Follette, Newport, Erwin and Rogersville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Flash Flood Watch

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through Monday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia, including
the following areas, in east Tennessee, Cocke Smoky Mountains,
Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, north Sevier,
northwest Carter, northwest Cocke, northwest Greene, Sevier
Smoky Mountains, southeast Carter, southeast Greene, Sullivan,
Unicoi, and Washington TN. In southwest Virginia, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Washington, and wise.

* Through Monday afternoon

* 2 to 4 inches of rainfall will be common across much of the area
through early Monday morning with localized amounts in excess of
6 inches possible.

* The persistent rainfall will fall on already saturated ground
across much of the area. The additional heavy rains could lead
to flooding of roadways, poor drainage areas, low lying areas
and small rivers and streams across the region. Mud slides are
possible, especially across the burn scar areas of Sevier
County, Tennessee.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take quick
action if flooding is observed or a Flash Flood Warning is
issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn around!
