Issued: 7:57 PM PDT Jul. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
central Lyon County in west central Nevada...

* until 915 PM PDT

* at 751 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
torrential rain and accumulating dime sized hail near US Route 95
alternate between fort Churchill station and Wabuska. Portions of
this areas have already seen 2-3 inches of rainfall today and the
threat for additional flash flooding impacting this portion US 95
alternate is elevated as a result.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
US Route 95 alternate from fort Churchill station to Wabuska.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not attempt to cross areas of moving water on roadways.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 845 PM PDT for
west central Churchill... Storey... southern Washoe and north central
Lyon counties...

At 643 PM PDT, another round of torrential rainfall is falling on
the eastern flank of the earthstone burn scar. Flash flooding could
result in debris flows for sections of Interstate 80 between Patrick
and Wadsworth.

Excessive rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are being
observed on radar over the burn scar. The debris flow from the burn
scar can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
