* Flood Warning for...

* at 531 PM CDT, emergency management and local law enforement
reported showers and a few thunderstorms with heavy rain. One to
two inches or rain will potentially fall the next few hours, with
locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall on already
saturated ground will cause dangerous rises in area creeks and
streams and significant ponding of water.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Birmingham, Hoover, Gadsden, Vestavia Hills, Prattville, Alabaster,
Bessemer, Homewood, Anniston, Pelham, Oxford, Mountain brook,
Trussville, Helena, Hueytown, Talladega, Alexander City, Millbrook,
Gardendale and Sylacauga.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 PM today...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Alabama, northeast Alabama, northwest
Alabama, and west central Alabama, including the following
areas, in central Alabama, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa,
Jefferson, Perry, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, and Walker. In
northeast Alabama, Etowah. In northwest Alabama, Marion and
Winston. In west central Alabama, Fayette, Greene, Hale,
Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa.

* Through 7 PM today.

* Tropical system Cindy has already produced 2 to 4 inches of rain
with locally higher amounts up to 7 inches. An additional 1 to 3
inches of rain is possible through this afternoon. There is a
possibility that the Flash Flood Watch may need to be extended
due to additional rainfall tonight and into Saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
