Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 3:19 PM AKST Feb. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Significant storms to impact Southeast Alaska late Monday night
into midweek...

Cool air entrenched over the Panhandle will be favorable for
preciptiation to fall as snow with the next series of weather
systems. A low developing over the northern Gulf of Alaska Monday
night will impact the Panhandle through Tuesday with the first
band of potential snowfall. The exact track of this first low is
uncertain but currently expected to persist over northeastern Gulf
and keep an onshore flow with snow continuing. Meanwhile a
developing wave late Wednesday night should move into the southern
half of the Panhandle bringing more significant snowfall and a
potential change over to rain for Prince of Wales Island and the
southern Inner Channels.

Forecast confidence is high for periods of accumulating snow late
Monday night, but low to moderate for periods beyond due to
uncertainty with the timing and track of each system. It is likely
however, that portions of the Panhandle will receive moderate to
heavy snowfall in this weather pattern.
