Forecast valid from 232200 to 242200 utc: wind in knots, wave heights in metres. No sea state given if waves less than 2m.

Note the wind speeds quoted here are the expected average speeds. Individual gusts may exceed these values by a factor of up to 1.5. Wave heights are significant wave heights which may be accompanied by individual waves 1.5 to 2.0 times higher.

These estimates of winds and waves do not take into account the enhancing effects of the Agulhas Current off the South African East Coast.

Alerts: ------- warnings: --------- 1. Poor visibility in morning and evening fog patches is expected in places between Cunene River and Walvis Bay. 2. Moderate to poor visibility in rain and showers is expected between port Edward and Maputo spreading to Plettenberg Bay from mid-period.

Watches: --------- nil.

Advisories: ----------- 1. Very rough seas with wave heights from 4 to 6m is expected between cape Columbine and St. Lucia from Tuesday evening until Thursday morning subsiding along the south-western, southern and eastern coastlines Wednesday evening. 2. High seas with wave heights from 6 to 7m is expected between Cape Point and port Edward from Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning. 3. A gale force E wind 34 to 40 is expected between cape Columbine and durban on Monday evening spreading to St. Lucia by Tuesday morning but moderating along the south-western, southern and south-eastern coastlines on Wednesday morning but along the eastern coastline Wednesday afternoon.

Abnormal wave conditions: ========================= nil.

Cunene River to Walvis Bay: wind : S to se 10 to 20 reaching 25 in the extreme north at times. Vis : poor in morning and evening fog patches in places, otherwise good. Sea state: 3.0 to 3.5m reaching 4.0m in places, mainly S to SW swell.

Walvis Bay to Orange River: wind : S to se 10 to 20 reaching 25 to 30 in places. Vis : good. Sea state: 3.0 to 3.5m reaching 4.0 to 4.5m in the luderitz area, S to SW swell.

Orange River to cape agulhas: wind : variable 05 to 15 south of Cape Point spreading to hondeklip Bay until mid-period, otherwise E to se 10 to 20 reaching 25 in the Cape Point area by the end of the period. Vis : good. Sea state: 2.0 to 2.5m reaching 3.0m in the Cape Point area towards the end of the period, SW swell.

Cape Agulhas to east london: wind : W to SW 05 to 15 becoming variable 05 to 15 towards the end of the period. Vis : good but moderate to poor in rain and showers east of Plettenberg Bay from mid-period. Sea state: 2.0 to 2.5m, SW swell.

East London to Maputo: wind : S to SW 10 to 20 until mid-period reaching 25 to 30 at first, otherwise E to se 05 to 15 reaching 20 to 25 in places but variable 05 to 15 south of durban. Vis : moderate to poor in rain and showers sea state: 2.0 to 2.5m reaching 3.0m, SW swell.

Mozambique channel: wind : NE 05 to 15 in the South-West at first, otherwise E to se 10 to 20 reaching 25 to 30 in the North-East. Vis : good but moderate in showers in places in the east spreading to the west.
