Deluge Swamps NY Subways, Submerges Regions Roads
Thousands of travelers below and above ground faced delays and cancellations as heavy rain triggered flash floods across the tri-state area Monday evening. Dramatic video shows how stormwater rushed into some New York subway stations swamping platforms. Dozens of flights were cancelled or delayed Monday and Tuesday and northern New Jersey got so much rain the governor declared an emergency.
Soggy East Braces For More Rain, Flooding
The flood threat has shifted slightly to the south Tuesday with flood watches in effect for most of Virginia, parts of Maryland and North Carolina. This includes cities south of Richmond that saw flooding overnight. Storms could produce rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour, so have a way to get warnings and never drive through floodwaters.The flood threat shifts back north across much of Pennsylvania and Ohio on Wednesday.
Where The Severe Threat Is Increasing
A strong summer cold front will bring a chance for scattered severe thunderstorms late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats, although isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Wind gusts could exceed 75 mph across much of Nebraska including places like North Platte and Kearney. Localized heavy rain could also lead to flooding, so please have a way to get warnings, especially at night. The severe threat shifts east Wednesday and includes more of the Great Lakes and places like Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison and Peoria.
Late Summer To Early Fall Outlook
The majority of the country is facing a warm and dry end to summer and beginning to fall, but hopefully the Gulf Coast is excited for a cooler and damper outlook.
