The cold-fatigued Northeast is begging for a pattern change. Unfortunately, the next strong cold front will usher in another blast of arctic air this weekend, dropping some temperatures into record territory.

If you didn’t see it, you probably wouldn’t believe it. A security camera captured the dramatic moment an avalanche slammed into a mountain resort town in northern India. Everything disappears under a wall of white, but incredibly, no deaths or serious injuries were reported.

Even the most daring and experienced skiers don’t want to get down the mountain this way. Sixty-seven skiers waited for hours as crews worked to rescue them from a gondola stuck in mid-air over the Gore Mountain ski resort in New York. A northward push of the jet stream is helping to keep warmer temperatures to parts of the Central US over the weekend into early this upcoming week. Highs in the 80s are possible across the Southern Plains, while parts of Montana can see highs in the 60s.
