The Northeast cannot seem to catch a break. After a bitter cold weekend, we are tracking a clipper system that could bring light snow to the Northeast Tuesday into Wednesday. Snow will generally be on the light side, ranging from 1-3 inches for many, but any additional snow will impact travel. Three to 8 inches of snow will be possible across Upstate New York and the higher elevations. Get your hour-by-hour forecast and the latest snow totals here.
Millions will begin to thaw out this week as temperatures rise a good 20-40 degrees above average. Monday will be the warmest day with highs in the 70s reaching as far north as Nebraska. A cold front will knock temperatures down a bit Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures will still be well above average. Unfortunately, the Northeast and mid-Atlantic will remain chilly, although temperatures will begin to moderate a bit this week. Watch this video to see how warm it will get in your city.
A viral video from Allentown, Pennsylvania, shows a resident burying another driver's car in snow after the motorist took her freshly shoveled parking spot. The homeowner had spent three hours clearing the space during a winter storm that dumped a foot of snow across eastern Pennsylvania. When she returned to find another vehicle parked there, she covered the car completely with snow. The incident has reignited debate over parking spot etiquette in snow-heavy cities, where unofficial rules often protect shoveled spaces for up to 48 hours.
With temperatures stubbornly remaining below freezing for long stretches, New York City has turned to the Trecan Combustion 60-PD Snowmelter, known on the streets as the “hot tub.” These orange behemoths can melt 120 tons of snow an hour. Javier Lojan, acting sanitation commissioner, told The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams the city has 13 of the machines operating around the city’s five boroughs. Lojan said it may take another couple of weeks before all the piles of snow are cleared.
