A sprawling storm may put a damper on Valentine’s weekend plans as rain and a few severe storms spread across the South. But there is one benefit to this wet weekend.

Mother Nature is gifting the Plains and much of the South with some much warmer weather this week into the weekend. The largest temperature change will be across the Plains where temperatures could rise more than 25 degrees above average! Highs in the 60s will surge as far north as the Dakotas and Iowa by the end of the weekend and into next week. Watch this video to see how warm it will get in your city.

The forecast is becoming more clear regarding the upcoming Valentine’s weekend storm. Computers models are coming into agreement and showing more rain than snow across the Northeast. The latest timing shows the rain moving in late Sunday, possibly changing over to a little bit of snow around the I-95 corridor. Minor accumulations are possible. A new crack in the iced-over Lake Erie is so huge, you can see it from space. The massive opening stretches for dozens of miles, and it’s coming with a warning about the danger of venturing out onto the frozen, but unstable landscape.

A semitractor-trailer driver had an unwelcome winter surprise in Michigan. As the semi drove along northbound U.S. 31 in Grand Haven Township, a 6-foot pile of snow on the trailer smashed a traffic light. Deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office stopped the truck. Michigan State Police were also called to the scene and they refused to let the truck leave until the snowpile was cleared.
