Onion Valley, Independence, CA

Caption: This rare golden Foxtail Pine resides in an ancient grove at 10,000' here in the High Sierra. These trees live no where else in the world but here in this remote area (& in the alpine Klamath country of northern CA) and are remarkably long lived in their harsh habitat, like their cousins the Bristlecone Pines of the neighboring ranges to the east.

thanks folks! I am just floored every time I visit the incredible Eastside of the Sierra Nevada. The rugged scale and scope of these mountains sends me home humbled every time. Trying to fit even a bit of it in my lens (or under my skis) is daunting. I'm thrilled to be able to share a taste of this big bad crazy wildness. cheers
