..the farmer moved alot of snow away and put down a thick layer of hay for the Galloways to eat and rest upon..the Oreo Cookie's (Belted Galloways) wasted no time settling in..and munching where they lay..eating in bed you might say!

and the "Stars" of the shot my favorite Oreo Cookie Cows..yes Donna, I love them too!! I am so happy to see them back out in their upper pasture..our good friend, the owner of this wonderful mountaintop farm, is so good to his animals..at this time of year he clears the snow off a section of their grazing area and fills it will hay..so from this time going forward, I'll be able to see them on a daily basis..looking forward to all the new calves this Spring too! thanks for the kind comments and Approvers for the blue! :)

Had never seen these before Susan so I had to go read up:
Belted Galloways, also known as Belties, are currently listed with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy as a "watched" breed, which means there are fewer than 2,500 annual registrations in the United States and a global population of less than 10,000

you are right Charlotte..this is a rather rare and expensive breed valued for their show qualities and prime beef..so our neighbor, who has quite a large herd of these, does both..shows them at the argricultural fairs, breeds them, and sells some for beef..I prefer not to know which ones get sold for beef!! they are wonderfully docile animals and so CUTE!

About suzi46
suzi46 Living in the mountains of Western Maine on a 15 acre 'gentleman's farm', in a hand hewn log home, has been a wonderful experience these past 6 1/2 years. The photo ops are virtually unlimited what with the surrounding working farms, dozens of lakes, ponds, and brooks, and thousands of acres of forest. Not to mention our own pond and brooks as well as extensive flower gardens, fruit bushes, vines, and trees. The views of Mt Washington and the Presidentials of NH only add to the drama! Not a bad place to be retired..and I am so glad I can share all of this with the wonderful folks on this great site..it has been a wonderful journey and learning experience thus far..and it's only getting better!
