This is Lily, the chipmunk that lives under our deck. She has a scar on her back and is missing her tail. She was looking for water in our bird bath fountain and went down under the rocks to find water that wasn't frozen yet.

Thank you all for your comments! She should be going into torpor but I guess she doesn't want to settle in just yet. Chipmunks don't really hibernate and I expect this one to be quite active this winter if she can survive the predators. Lots of bird seed and fresh water available for her and humans that appreciate her presence. Her scars prove that she is a survivor and I'm hoping to see her with little ones in the spring.

Sweet little thing...very nice capture of her.

Sorry to hear about her tail as it's rather
important to critters like her.

Congratulations on your AC, Gale!

superAC ... I was told too by folks at a nature preserve ,, that chipmunks don't really hibernate and at times need to go out to find food when hungry ...

Great capture, love it!!! Congrats on the new blue!!!

Funny, I haven't seen any chipmunks in a few weeks, and was wondering if they went into hibernation, or not...

So sweet... all pics of Lily, the Survivor. Am so glad you are giving her seed and water for the winter and a safe place to live.
Keep us up to date about Lily and, hopefully, her babies in the Spring.
Good work you are doing!!!
