Wind driven snow

Meadowlands, MN (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: It was about 15 above zero with the winds gusting over 30mph, driving the snow sideways. What looks like clouds in the sky is snow being swirled high in the air by the wind. Later in the day big drifts came out from these 15 to 20 foot high snow banks on the sides of the highway.

Naw, these were on the opposite end of the lot, with a dark background so they'd be visible.

Gene~~those snow-nados were swirling high in the air the whole 40 miles to Hibbing and then back again---I kept trying to get shots of them but they'd be gone too fast. I did stop and tape a video of the driving snow but didn't get any swirls in it. Did you get pictures at all?

Jeans~~thanks so much for looking and leaving a note! :-)

Yeh, when they piled snow into a small mountain-range at the outer edges of the parking lot at work, and the wind started kicking up, there were little dust-devils of snow swirling above the mounds.

About minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs---too hot for me. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
