This is the weir on the river Wharf at Otley, West Yorkshire.Only a week after some of the worst Autumn rain storms seen, especially in the north of Britain The flooding here is by no means as bad as some places but I have never seen it like this before,..parts of the adjacent land is under water. and the noise as the river rushes over the weir is deafening.

A very interesting picture that prompted me goggle word weir. We had several people named Weir in the area in which lived, but I believe that we always used the word dam, as I had never seen weir used there. One lives and learns, and it is much easier than it was 50 years ago!

Thanks for your comment Bernard --Sorry you had to look up "weir" but I suppose it's part of our quaint local dialect where I live :-) I also call a weir a dam but Hey What's in a name ? :-)
