WoW Charlotte--that is low! We seem to be the "wettest spot in America" at the moment along Florida's Emerald Coast. Hope everyone gets rain soon!

Great shot of the destroyer there in Baton Rouge!

Nice capture of the river or I should say what's left of it. seems its either to little or to much. Nice that they have preserved the USS KIDD, DD 661. I was a Tincan Sailor myself, the USS Frank Knox DDR 742.
Congrats on the VIP....

Thanks Bob. I'll look that one up to compare.

Spring 2011 there was so much water in this river that it was spilling over the banks into the city and they had to sandbag it & open the spillway above Baton Rouge which flooded some houses.

This year seems to be excesses of everything, either too much rain, or no rain at all, too much heat or downright cold. There does not seem to be a happy medium. That ship does look strange sitting in its present environment and I hope things somehow level off soon everywhere. We had lots of nineties and this morning it was 44 so who knows???

Deja Vu all over again. The same or very similar photographs, of this USS Kidd memorial, were posted here about a year ago, for the same reason, to show the low river level.

Kismokus you must be talking about this one I took January 2011.

yeah we thought it was low then and that was January before the snows melted, which brought the level of the river to overflowing its banks. They had to sandbag it to keep it from flooding Baton Rouge.
As you can see it is quite a bit lower now. Mostly because of the lack of winter snows.
If it gets lower I will probably take another pic.
I am glad you notice my photos & that they leave lasting impressions with you. Thanks!!

It's beautiful Charlotte, and it is so good to see memorials of those trying times and remember the heroes! Thank you!

Thank you for posting this one, also. Those exemplify the low river water over a pretty long period of time.

Posting this one, too, has helped me to clarify that I was not in fact going nuts and having dry river dreams or hallucinations.

We certainly can see that global warming is showing it's ugly face in our weather extremes, and what that does to our water resources.

Thanks for your comments Kismokus. It was hard to believe that 4 months after it was so low, that the melting snow up north brought the water level so high

In May of 2011 it was up to 41 feet flood stage. It came within a few feet of those railroad tracks so it almost flooded the city of Baton Rouge & would have if they would not have opened the Morganza spillway to flood people's homes. Sacrificing the few for the many! Poor people.
The USS KIDD is further down on the left of the photo. They would not let us go on the levee to take pictures.
