Caption: We have had these 'superior mirages' on our horizons quite a bit lately, as cold dense layer of night air is trapped beneath a layer of warmer layer aloft. (Temperature inversions) 15 below zero.

If it were truly a hill, that would be a steep one to climb.
Over all - such a beautiful view.

Oops! Sorry Dave, the 'cloud' is just a layer of woodsmoke, from a nearby cabin's stove.

Thanks Kathy, it is fun to see this happen. There is no rise in the road, it's all....illusion! And see? There is a 'water on the road' mirage too.

What fun, trying to figure out what's really there and what's illusion! :-)

Great shot Katy, i take it the 'cloud' above the road is an artifact of the temp difference!

About katy99780

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
