They only lasted a moment, and were gone. Only lens I had with me was the 70-300, so I couldn't 'back off' for a better view.

I've seen this kind of cloud only twice before in my life, and I count myself lucky each time.

I GUESS WE ARE LUCKY TOO. SAW SOME OF TRHESE ON THE WAY INTO ABILENE TEXAS THE OTHER DAY. I ALSO CALLED THEM CURLING WAVE CLOUDS.

Arlene, the only thing I know of, that these clouds foretell, is turbulence up there, not a good place to be in your light plane... I believe they are caused by certain winds generated over specific terrain conditions. I have only seen them happen over mountains. My near mountain range is to the left of the photo, just out of sight.

A first for me Susan, to see these in OVERCAST skies. The other sitings were in partly cloudy conditions, all three times in winter.
