This year around beauty doesn't often come to the feeder until days begin to lengthen and temps warm just a bit, usually not until March. Pine Grosbeak is the biggest (and rarest) of all 'winter finches.' I am very happy to see them, maybe it means an early spring!

I've heard of the Rosebreasted Grosbeak, but never heard of the Pine variety. What a shot and a treat for all of us. Looks like a flame, with the red center and the blue around. 10+ in my book. This needs a blue border.

Thanks for all your postings that give us 48ers a virtual visit to Alaska!

Thank you Rodney and Barb!

Barb I'm pretty sure we aren't allowed more than one AC in a series, but you can bet I'll be snapping photos of these beauties, next chance I get, and maybe I'll get lucky!

When I grew up in Canada we had a lot of pine and evening grosbeaks and they are so pretty. We had a bush with rosehips and they loved them. I haear they are around here in ND but I have not seen any.
