We have the herring fleet in in March. THOSE guys are absolutely INSANE.. I've seen the You Tube videos of the Sitka herring sac roe openings. Combat fishing at its most intense. And I still can't believe what permits cost.

Since we've been in Craig, I've met a lot of fishermen, and it's amazing that any of them continue to go out with all the costs associated with fishing and how the quotas are lowered and lowered. Yes. A very hard life. But these are mostly happy guys (at least the ones I've met). Granted, hard drinking, smoking, bleep-bleeping guys, but good, happy guys nonetheless.

romantic view of a very hard life, season is short and hard. Wish i was there, lighting is fabulous
