Thanks WU fans for your votes and comments!

This was my favorite shot of the day...and yes, the Navarre Beach Pier (the longest pier on the Gulf of Mexico) is still there, but the Santa Rosa County Disaster Response Team closed access to all of Navarre Beach at 1900L tonight.

We are safer than the people who went out on that pier yesterday for a couple of hours sunsetlvr! The photos made The Weather Channel Facebook wall front page. It was also not worth risking damage to my camera equipment....

HOLY MOTHER OF HURRICANES!! THIS IS VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!! You can just imagine the power of water, wind and sand, versus structure in this one. OUTSTANDING PHOTO! I think this should be an A/C as well...:)) -Mindi

P/S JEFF...I said 'Jenn' in my other comment,,lol .Guess I'll have to look up your location here,as I am not familiar with Narvarre Beach,,whether it's located on the gulf side or east coast?? Either way,,some very exciting and beautiful photo work here!

Thanks Mindi! This is my personal favorite in the series....

Yes, I hear Bob saying now "Mindi, he said Jeff takes the photos!" LOL! ;)

Navarre Beach is on the Gulf Coast with the largest fishing pier on the Gulf of Mexico. We are about half way between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola Beach. Navarre is actually unincorporated Santa Rosa County and part of Gulf Breeze, FL. We have one of the few uncommercialized/undeveloped natural beaches on Florida's Emerald Coast--a great vacation destination for nature photographers like you and Bob!

That is a great compliment SunsetSailor--thanks!

Everyone may also be interested in this 2 minute video shot by Bill Twingley of the Pensacola News Journal (PNJ) when they allowed people to go up on the Navarre Beach Pier for a couple of hours yesterday:

Dangerous waves at Navarre Beach

Although I personally would not risk damage to my camera equipment, these are amazing shots and later in the video I have the same video locations. Not sure if I would go up on the pier during a hurricane anyway though...I saw people get hurt by flying debris along Navarre Beach yesterday without going onto the pier.

Thanks for the great comments Dorothy, Agris, Tim and Helen! I decided not to take the camera out on the pier for the 2 hours the Santa Rosa County officials let people go out on the pier with the waves crashing over them during Hurricane Isaac...but Bill Twingley of the Pensacola News Journal (PNJ) made some photos and video out there when the waves were over the top of the pier--really AMAZING!
