12 years ago my 16 yr old standard poodle baby (that I had for 5 years before I had children) died.... I still miss her.
I put her through obedience school & then on to obedience competition.

Other dogs that the kids have picked out have come & gone but I have never been as attached to them, just didn't want the hurt.

Jack, in our lifetime, there can be only "one Eiffel Tower, one finest hour, etc." and there can be but one cat of a lifetime, dog of a lifetime, horse of a lifetime. I've been blessed to have known and loved Smoke, grey Arabian gelding, who spent his last ten years with me -- and though I had other horses, none even came close to him. There was twelve plus years of knowing the child of my soul, Wiggles Blue Heeler, and knowing that, even though he put his fourth paw into Heaven (returning from whence he came) on December 5th, 2010, he gave me his all. Never could there be another like him, so attuned to me (and I, to him). Read wigglesblueheeler (dot) blogspot (dot) com if you'd like to learn about our great love, which remains unbroken, because we are joined at the heart and soul. God and Wiggles put me and Good Boy on a course that met on March 2, 2011, and saved both our lives. Only Wiggles would have put another blind Australian cattle dog / blue heeler into my life. So ... your precious, beloved Dolly -- my beloved Wiggles -- please know that tears often flow for him to this day, and always will. God bless you in your grief; I hope you have many photos of Dolly to supplant your memories! Julie in Ohio

Two and a half years ago we laid our Golden, Sassy to rest and a month before that our cat, Pooh-Ki. It's been this long and I still miss them. I can tell that Dolly was a beautiful and sweet little girl. You'll always hold her in your hearts and memories. Each and every animal who dains to give us their love touches us in ways no others can. What you had with Dolly was from her alone. Hold onto that and cherish it. There may be another that comes along and that ones' love will touch you in it's own way. Keep being the giving and loving human that you are. I will not say the pain will go away or get easier (for me it hasn't because Sassy especially was a one of a kind baby), I'll just say you have a fellow human who understands.
Thank you for sharing your feelings.
Take care Jack.

This is my very first post and it comes from the heart. Please know that I have been in your situation many times as I have rescued and then lost many feline family members. I remember feeling grateful that they were no longer suffering in ways they were unable to express to me, and somewhere with each time I had to let go of my selfishness of wanting to keep them to love and care for them, and let them go, as I believe there is a spot in heaven for all creatures. Your Dolly will never be forgotten and love goes on forever--the love you gave and received from her. Time helps to heal wounds, but let love also help you through your grief. My thoughts are genuine and with you always. Carri

I'm sorry too. I have tears in my eyes and I'm remembering 21. december last year when I lost my dear german shepherd Kaja. My boss at the job says that time heals all wounds. But we never forget your best friends... With love,

So very sorry, Jack! I'm an animal lover, too  (probably beyond that) so I want to extend my deepest sympathy.  In the end, I know we like-minded ones will all meet again, regardless of our outer package.

I heard that Dolly is gone and that maybe you might offer up some prayer for Jack.
Those of us who love our animals have probably all shared the loss of a loved animal who has been a member of our family, almost a human in that regard.
I'm sure Dolly knew she was loved, and loved back with that same intensity.
RIP

Hang in there Jack. The Faith that manifests God's healing promises is the faith that perseveres in the face of the ups and downs we see with our eyes in the natural. God is faithful to honor his Word and his Promises and they are already real in the Spirit (the supernatural). And by our Faith, they become real in this world. Jesus said many, many times "Your faith has made you whole". And those who wavered in their belief (like the Centurion) asked for help..."Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief". Dolly is up and down and I am guessing that you are also up and down (I would be) so keep your inner eyes fixed on her being healed and whole again and ask for help when you need reinforcement. Dolly is a fighter and so are you. Ariel and I are still agreeing with you in prayer for Dolly's full and complete healing. Barb (PS, I am 63 and live alone with my Torbie Ariel, who looks very much like Dolly. We have been together for 3 yrs and I know how I would be feeling if she was sick and how devastated I would be to lose her.)

Thanks for your thoughs & prayers Barb. I know about their sixth sense. I work at home, so I'm able to give her plenty of attention. She sits next to me most of the time. Today was a up down day... she threw up what she ate by herself this morning and was listless most of the day. Perked up tonight. I've been hand-feeding her 3-4 times a day. Been like this all week, up, down, up, down.

I know Ranger and he recently lost two cats that he had for 20 years. That was a tough, painful loss.

Jack -- hope all is still going well with Dolly's recovery. Even though you may have to feed her by hand, I trust she is still eating. Keep sending those positive thoughts and images to her. Animals think in pictures and you are a photographer, so compose some good mental images of her running and playing and cuddling with you. And we all know that cats (and dogs) have a sixth sense, so its not a stretch to know you can send the images to her. You and Dolly are in my prayers. Barb

Jack,
I was particularly moved by the comments from BAMyres.
What a wonderful, positive attitude.
You have a wonderful talent that comes thru in your photography, and that I think is your love for your kitty, and your craft.
Due to my recent losses of 20 year partners, I've had to take the approach of celebrating their lives, so to speak.
You have to enjoy them while you can to the fullest

Keep the faith, Jack. Sometimes it takes the body a while to fully manifest healing. Set the vision of a happy and healthy Dolly in your mind's eye and keep focused on that, not on bad reports or alarming symptoms. Every time you have to feed her, visualize her healthy and running and eating on her own and send that picture to her. And, like Jonah in the belly of the whale, offer thanks and praise despite current circumstance. Ariel and I are again renewing prayers and thanksgiving for Dolly's full recovery. Barb

Hope this note finds you fine & Dolly recuperating well. I went thru the same with my cat "Bigfoot" (11 yrs.) a few months ago. He has done well, but it took a month or so, for him to gain back the weight & act normal after returning home. Slow & steady wins the race! Prayers still going out for you & Dolly. PS...Love the Incoming Jay it's a 10 !

Circumstances may be as different as night & day, but when one of our two rescued litter mates developed what appeared to be kidney failure at age 2, we went through the same trauma. We did place her on an NF diet, and her sister loved the same food (nice for us!).

Two years later tests show no sign of any problem at all. New Vet thinks maybe it was a very anomaly of something unknown at this point. I just can't imagine what could be so devastating and traumatic, then disappear.

I can still remember how my husband and I felt.... it's so awful, there are no words to describe. Sounds as if yours will also have a happy ending, and that's glorious.

I have a cat that around eight years old had some strange urinary tract issue that the vets said happens for an unknown reason to some cats. My cat is now sixteen years old and has outlived his mom and brother! -kevin :)

Looks like she just might make a amazing recovery. She is eating near normal again and hasn't thrown up for 3 days. She doesn't look so sick. She is now begging for food, but I"m only giving her a little gerber baby food at a time. I've been babying her night and day. Both, the Vet & I thought she wouldn't make it.
So prayer works folks. Please keep it up so she makes a full recovery
